APIIT Sri Lanka, a trailblazer in higher education since 1999, has once again brought the nation into the spotlight with a monumental achievement on the international stage. Representing Sri Lanka at the prestigious 10th Bucerius International Mediation Competition, organised by Bucerius Law School, Hamburg, Germany, APIIT Law School emerged as the Runner-Up Best Negotiator Team, marking a historic milestone.
The competition, held from 29th November to 1st December, 2024, is recognised as one of the world's most elite Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) contests. This year, the hybrid-format event attracted 22 top-tier Negotiator Teams from around the globe, showcasing exceptional talent in negotiation and mediation.
APIIT's team—comprising third-year law undergraduates Rabiah Husni, Zaynab Husni, and Kaviru Sudusinghe—not only participated but excelled against stiff competition. As the only team competing entirely online, they shattered expectations by advancing through the preliminaries and securing a spot in the finals. This remarkable performance culminated in their triumph as Runner-Up, cementing APIIT's reputation for nurturing world-class talent.
Out of 24 international teams, APIIT Law School was the only Sri Lankan team selected to participate and the only online team to reach the finals, competing against formidable teams from countries such as Japan, Singapore, Poland, Ireland, India, and Germany. The team's success is a testament to their exceptional preparation, guided by the mentorship of APIIT alumni Tharuka Jayasinghe and Diluki Silva.
The Bucerius International Mediation Competition is not just a contest but an unparalleled platform for fostering skills and connections in the ADR field. APIIT's consistent participation and remarkable performance in such events equips students with practical expertise and open doors to global opportunities.
This latest accolade reinforces APIIT's mission to produce well-rounded graduates capable of thriving in competitive global arenas. With a student body exceeding 3,000 and a long-standing partnership with University of Staffordshire, UK, spanning nearly 25 years, APIIT continues to raise the bar in higher education and professional excellence.
Heartiest congratulations to Rabiah, Zaynab, Kaviru, their coaches, and the entire APIIT Law School community for elevating Sri Lanka's standing in the international ADR map. This victory is a shining example of APIIT's commitment to shaping future global leaders and changemakers.
