Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Honours (BEng Hons) programme at Staffordshire University provides an opportunity to become a professional engineer equipped with the skills and knowledge required to address future challenges driven by Industry 4.0 and emerging technologies.

Through its long-standing partnership with Staffordshire University, APIIT Sri Lanka offers the flexibility to complete this degree programme locally or transfer to the UK after the first year.

The Mechanical Engineering programme not only equips you with strong technical competencies in areas such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and advanced manufacturing, but also engages you in cutting-edge developments in automation and modern engineering systems. Research in engineering at Staffordshire University was rated as “internationally excellent” or “world-leading” in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 assessment. The university also maintains strong industry links, with many students completing a year-long placement at leading companies.

If you choose to transfer to Staffordshire University for the second year, the Visa Support Team will guide you through the transfer process, assist with visa applications, and help arrange your arrival in the UK.

Admission Requirements

You can enrol in this programme through one of the following pathways.

  1. GCE Advanced Level​(Mathematics Stream – Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry)
    • Sri Lankan exam: 2C passes and 1S pass, including a C pass for mathematics or physics
    • OR
    • Cambridge or Edexcel exams: 2C passes and 1S pass, including a C pass for mathematics or physics,
    • OR
    • Any combination totalling 16 points from the following tariff scheme:​
      GCE Advanced Level Grade​(Sri Lankan/Cambridge/Edexcel/NCUK IFY)​
      • A – 10 points
      • B – 08 points
      • C – 06 points
      • D/S – 04 points
      • E – 02 points
      AND
    • GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level – Credit Passes (Grade 4) for English​
  2. NCUK International Foundation Year​
    • 2C passes and 1S pass including a C pass for mathematics or physics,
    • OR
    • Any combination totalling to 16 points from the tariff scheme above in point 1.
    • AND
    • A ‘D’ for English for Academic Purposes
