The APIIT Cyber Security degree programme is designed to prepare students for the evolving challenges of today’s digital landscape. The curriculum offers a balanced combination of defensive and offensive security, with a strong emphasis on hands-on practical learning. Students work with real-world tools, environments, and scenarios that develop practical expertise and confidence in tackling modern cyber threats.
While practical exposure is a key focus, the programme also recognizes the importance of building a strong theoretical foundation. Effective cyber security professionals must be able to think critically, understand core principles, and make informed decisions when addressing security issues. The teaching approach ensures that students develop both the technical depth and analytical mindset required for the profession.
As part of the offensive security training, students are actively encouraged and trained to participate in Capture the Flag (CTF) tournaments. These competitions are fully integrated into the curriculum and provide an exciting, challenge-based learning environment that strengthens problem-solving skills, teamwork, and technical proficiency.
Through this programme, students gain the knowledge, discipline, and practical experience required to become competent, responsible, and industry-ready cyber security professionals.

Standard Route: A. GCE Advanced Level - Sri Lankan: 3 passes or London, Cambridge or Edexcel: 3 D passes or Any combination totalling to 12 points. Or the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology Degree Foundation. And B. GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level – Credit Passes (Grade 4) for English and Mathematics. Or C. Equivalent qualifications.
Accelerated Route:GCE Advanced Level (Sri Lankan, London, Cambridge, or Edexcel) – 3 C passes and GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level – Credit Passes (Grade 4) for English and Mathematics.
You may apply pending A/L results. Applicants with additional qualifications may receive advanced entry.
You will learn through lectures, tutorials, and workshops. Lectures are highly interactive, incorporating group discussions, video presentations, and activity-based learning. Learning activities are designed to develop soft skills and your ability to work independently and collaboratively. Your learning experience will be enriched by field visits and guest lectures by industry experts. During your studies, you have access to many learning support platforms and e-resources. Additionally, to support lifelong learning, we provide students with the opportunity to use LinkedIn Learning for continuous development and to earn diverse certifications.
You will be able to commence your career as a Information Security Analyst, Ethical Hacker, computer Forensics Analyst, Chief Information Security Officer, Penetration Tester and progress onto job roles as an IT Security Consultant, Information Security Engineer and Systems Security Administrator.
